BOOK REVIEW & GIVEAWAY
*****5 COPIES AVAILABLE*****
Every now and then, I come across a book that makes me subconsciously talk back to it. If I can relate to the material, I can envision the conversation going on and on with a glass of wine in one hand and complete emptiness in the other hand. The empty hand represents the message I'm waiting to get from reading that book. It wasn't until I read Permission Slips that I realized I've been waiting to exhale since the 90's and now it's time to give myself persmission.
Sherri describes situations that are almost unbelieveable. Situation that, at times, makes you think you are alone and that no one else can relate. Her tone is matter-of-fact and similar to that of a girlfriend. She recalls events in her own life that all women have encountered at some point as a wife, mom, divorcee, career driver. Pick a role you have played and she has it covered in this book. What Sherri attempts to do is remind the reader, obviously geered to women, to grant themselves permission for flaws and mistakes. Each permission slip is tailored to the situation but the more I read, the more I said...it's ok. I didn't learn anything new by reading this book. I was just reminded of my own self-empowerment. The permission slips are meant to shave off the guilt that women feel when they believe they have not met everyone else's expectations.
The book was funny, entertaining and relatable. It's can be used to start a book club discussion but I guarantee that book clubs will find the conversation shifting to their own personal stories while seeking their right to write and use permission slips. Gone are the days of high school when you waited for someone else to grant you permission. That power has shifted.

I am not a type A personality so I don't have a problem giving myself "permission slips". I don't obsess over housecleaning, or meal preparation, or other myriad things.
