Movie Based on Book - Will you see it?

Happy MultiMedia Friday! I feel like I can just let loose! I have been receiving emails (Thanks to LionsGate and Paramount Pictures) for advanced screening passes for movies based on books.  Watch for future posts Atlanta-based subscribers to learn how you can join in on the fun.

MOVIE (BASED ON BOOK ) RELEASE TODAY!

Precious is a 2009 American drama film, adapted from the 1996 Sapphire novel Push. The film premiered in January 2009 at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize for best drama, as well as a Special Jury Prize for supporting actress Mo'Nique.  After it's premiere at the Sundance Festival, it was picked up for distribution by LionsGate and received promotional assistance from Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey. It's already receiving Academy Award buzz for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress (Mo'Nique).

Libby took advantage of the advanced screening pass for Precious and here's what she had to say...

"I really enjoyed the movie! It had a great cast and I wouldn't be surprised if we see some of them nominated for Oscars. The abuse Precious suffered was downright sickening at times, but in the end there was a message of hope. I would definitely recommend Precious."

Are you going to see it? Did you read the book? Sound off with your comments.

Here's the movie trailer. Enjoy!

I love to see movies after I have read the book. I often compare the two. I do realize it is impossible to put everything from a book into a movie. I suppose a good adaptation is when the movie captures the essence of the story and the characters personalities. Those two things are the most important. I cannot comment on "Precious" yet, since I have not read the book or seen the movie.

Gale, I agree with you. I think that a lot of times readers are disappointed with movie adaptations for not capturing the true depth of a characters as intended by the author. At least that has always been my disappointment. A while ago, I went to see Time Traveler's Wife. I had not read the book but felt like so much more was missing from the movie. This time I don't think it had anything to do with the depth of the characters. It had more to do with the essence of the story.

How do you feel about authors fighting for the right to have input for a film adaptation of their book?
