Have you ever heard the saying, "You are what you eat"? Registered dietitian Elizabeth Somer explains the truths behind this old adage in her most recent book, Eat Your Way to Happiness. She has been researching the link between diet and mood for almost 20 years. In this book, she reveals 10 diet secrets that promise to not only change your eating habits, but also increase your awareness.Did you know if you removed added sugars (as opposed to natural sugars) from your diet, within a year's time, you would shed 50 lbs? The chapter called, "Adopt the 6% Solution", refers to the World Health Organization's recommendation that only 6% of our daily caloric intake should come from added sugars. So, why is it so difficult to curb a sugar craving? Studies at Johns Hopkins University reveal that the mere taste of sugar releases endorphins. This sugar rush is precisely why we love sweets.
Eat Your Way to Happiness not only explains why food affects us, but also provides you with the tools necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Each chapter includes meal ideas, useful tips, and recipes to help you become more "blissfully fit".
This book not only taught me a great deal, but also reminded me of what I already knew. The greatest lesson I learned is that "it is not only possible to feel good while dieting, it is absolutely essential to long-term success." Simply put, in order to live a healthy life, you must eat your way to happiness.
Consider using Eat Your Way to Happiness to help fulfill your New Year's resolution. This is a great handbook and I would highly recommend it.

Interesting book. It sounds like it can help tackle the small things first. No drastic dieting.
Thanks for the review. Did you try any of the recipes in the book?
I've enjoyed many of the suggested meal ideas, but have not made any of the recipes. They all look delicious!
