Throughout the course of the month, I have highlighted African and African-American authors, mostly debut who have entered the writing scene in a very robust way for 2010. Today, I'd like to end the official celebration of Black History Month by highlighting one more book from an emerging author, Suzanne E. Smith. I chose to end with her book, To Serve the Living: Funeral Directors and the African American Way of Death, because the story truly represents history in the United States from a truly unique perspective. I will be honest. I discovered this book late and read the excerpt, purchased the book and now I'm awaiting its arrival.
