Support the Cause!

Emily at the Zoo is a delightful children’s book about a little girl’s first trip to the zoo. Written in entertaining rhyming verses, the story is easy to follow and fun to read-aloud. Each page has a professional photograph of a featured animal, personalized with its name. Alongside each picture is a short paragraph detailing facts about the animal. We meet several interesting creatures at the Irvine Park Zoo in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, including Pooky the porcupine and Whitney the American bison. So, even though it is a fictional story, the author educates the reader.
One reason why I love this book is that it appeals to children of all reading levels. In a sense, it grows with the child. The professional photography and rhyming story easily capture the attention of a young child. The story itself is simple enough for beginning readers to understand. The animal facts are perfect for an independent reader. My children (ages 4 and 6) are at different reading levels and they both enjoy Emily at the Zoo.

Not only is Emily at the Zoo a great book about animals, it is also a fund-raising project. The author, Monica Holtz, is donating a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Irvine Park and Zoo. Author Exposure supports this great cause! If you are interested in ordering this book, it is available online here.
