From the acclaimed author Al Riske, winner of the 2008 Blue Mesa Review fiction prize for his story “Pray for Rain”, comes a collection of 15 short stories that deal with love and sex. Each story in Precarious tells the tale of people who have done the "right" thing even when it was the last thing that they wanted to do.

The characters are flawed in some way but always manage to make you want to root for their triumph. From teenage boys who struggle with their newfound sexual awareness and desires, to grown women seeking love in the wrong places, Riske keeps the reader interested as he moves from story to story.

I enjoyed the book and loved the undercurrent of somewhat dry humor in his writing style. I would recommend Precarious to other readers who enjoy short fiction stories.

Some of the scenes described may not be suitable for young readers. Although there are not many, the ones that appear are quite descriptive. For this reason, I would suggest it to adults only.

Another winner for Riske!
