Still Missing is a captivating tale by debut author Chevy Stevens. It is a story about Annie O’Sullivan, a promising realtor, who is abducted during an open house and taken to a remote cabin on Vancouver Island. For an entire year, she lives with the psychopathic captor she names the “The Freak”, who beats her, rapes her, and completely controls her.

The entire story is narrated by Annie as she talks to her psychiatrist. Over the course of 25 sessions (chapters), the reader learns about the events leading up to her abduction, the year spent with her captor, and the events following her escape. Working with the police, she unravels the questions surrounding her abduction. Who was “The Freak”? Why did he prey on Annie? What did her family go through while Annie was gone? How did “The Freak” pick his victim?

I absolutely loved the clever construction of this novel. Annie’s narrative was hauntingly real. Each therapy session began with Annie talking about her present life and then she would flashback to the pain and humiliation she suffered under the care of her deranged captor. This technique allowed the reader to see, firsthand, what Annie had been through and was going through. How does one survive such a nightmare and piece together their life? Well, Annie did survive; she is a survivor, and she is the driving force behind this thrilling novel.

I highly recommend Still Missing to readers who enjoy thrillers, mysteries, and novels with strong female protagonists. This book was impossible to put down! It is definitely one of my top picks for 2010!

Absolutely terrifying. I read and reviewed it too. I did not like the ending however. That was my only gripe!

Yes, this is a real page turner! The author talked about her next book (coming July 2011) in an interview I recently read. The therapist, Nadine, is returning. I just love how Ms. Stevens uses this therapist in her novels. This time Nadine is seeing a woman named Sara who discovers her father is a serial killer who has been killing women for 30 years.
