Kenn Bivins’ promising first novel is about Carpious Mightson, a man thrown into impossible situations that leave him holding the bag. After spending many years in prison for murder, his release date finally arrives. Determined to make a fresh start Carpious gets a job, buys a home, builds a relationship with a wonderful woman, and becomes well-respected and liked by those in his neighborhood. Of course, they do not know that he is an ex-convict.

Life would be perfect if only his past wasn't hanging over his head, the secret threatening to spill out and ruin the new life he has created. When a convicted child molester moves into the neighborhood and recognizes Carpious from their time in prison, things heat up. Then Carpious' drug addicted ex-wife comes back into the picture threatening to tell his secret if he doesn't give her money.

Backed into a corner, Carpious becomes fearful that his new life is going to be destroyed. How can he stop his ex-wife and the ex-con from telling the neighbors about his prison time? Will his newfound goodness win out in the end?

Kenn Bivins is an extremely talented writer who has a way of capturing a reader's interest right from the start. The storyline is unique and makes the reader think about how they might act or react were they in Carpious' shoes.

I read this in one sitting because I couldn't seem to put it down until I knew the ending. Pious is a great read! I would recommend this novel to family and friends who enjoy mysteries and tales about people's flaws. Young adults and older adults alike would enjoy this book.

I look forward to more work from Kenn Bivins!
