Reading is all about the experience! Four years ago, I posted an ad on Readers Circle looking for additional book club members. I received more emails from authors who wanted their book selected than I did for club membership. Today, the book club idea melted into a greater mission - Author Exposure. We created a community of readers curious about these anecdotal literary newborns that brought us new books, new thoughts, and simply a renewed source of entertainment.
Whether they hail from traditional publishers, small press or the cycle of self-publishers, debuts authors are all in the same place. In need of our attention. My excitement continues to grow for debuts every year and I’m campaigning to get you on board, so without further delay here are the reasons why you should give debut authors their first chance.
1. A new perspective. When authors are getting ready to publish their first book, it means that they have taken on the challenge to offer you something different. They have figured out a way to offer you a new experience, new lesson or a new adventure. Today’s new releases are all about igniting discussion. Be a part of it.
2. The writing style. New authors are seeking to break into the scene by trying new techniques. Multiple points of view in a novel can lead to multiple storylines. Authors are exposing readers to characters with foreign dialects. They are telling stories in ways that will make their books memorable by creating characters you can really care about.
3. The opportunities. Authors are new to the business and seek to build readership. The most important connection they can make right now is you – the reader. This is the perfect opportunity to interact with the authors through their blog, social networks, sponsored author chats, book club meetings and live events. You’ll find them to be a bit more leisurely than the seasoned authors.
BONUS! Satisfaction. If none of the above work for you, you can always sit back with me and say, “Hey, remember when we first met her. She was a really neat person. I’m glad she made it.” That’s what I did last year when Kathryn Stockett catapulted to the top of the bestsellers list. You can also privately bass in the fact that you know how to pick a winner! Worse case scenario - you’ll be one stop short of becoming an author groupie!

Hi,
My name is Sofia Essen, and I'm the author of newly released "Change of Pace" - a novel set in Crete. I found your blog through a list on Wordpress and I was wondering if you would consider interviewing me or reviewing my book.
"Change of Pace" is my first novel. I'm currently trying to find ways to let potential readers know about it. Promoting a book is surprisingly time-consuming! So at this point I'm an author and a slightly mind-boggled publicist in one, which, I know is true for many authors.
My book is in essence a story about a woman who dares to find out who she really is after a series of events which are out of her control take place - she loses her job, gets dumped by her boyfriend, and turns thirty the same week.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best Wishes,
Sofia ms.sofiaessen@gmail.com
