Katie Crouch has created a fantastic southern tale with hoodoo, secrets, and a debutante society that will surely keep those who love the paranormal gripped to every word.

After a tragic accident and loss of her mother, Alexandria Lee’s world changes in a way she could never have imagined. She is thrust into a southern debutante lifestyle and a secret society that is completely opposite of the communal life she adores. Nothing is as it seems and everyone has a secret!

Bringing the south to life, Crouch developed a cast of realistic characters with paranormal components. The main character, Alex, can easily be placed amongst some of the literary world’s strongest fictional characters, in my opinion. Her emotional connection and bond to her mother are perfect examples of the realistic qualities that make Alexandria such a fabulous character to follow as she becomes the center of attention in The Magnolia League.

The paranormal aspect of The Magnolia League is superb and refreshing. It was nice to delve into a paranormal novel that doesn’t take place in an urban jungle. The detailed descriptions throughout the novel paint a clear and beautiful image of Atlanta and all things southern. While some of the characters were at times annoyingly jaded, it didn’t take away from the story as a whole.

Overall, I found The Magnolia League to be a fun and enjoyable read. Readers that enjoy the paranormal will love the refreshing new southern world Crouch has put to paper. Crouch has quickly become one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to dive into her other works.
