A lot of what is mentioned in the book is familiar ground for many people above the age of 30. That is why I refer to it as a nice reference to pass along from one generation to the next. It provides quite a foundation and I have yet to see anything like this in writing. BeNeca did a great job pulling it all together. I am listening to it from the sidebar and it's amazing that some of the issues she raises about respect for adults are the way I was raised by my Nigerian parents and just the same way that my African American friends have often complained about the same things. And I do remember feeling uncomfortable with my mother in the room if certain scenes came up in a movie and if she felt it was inappropriate, she could even turn off the movie. I did not have a say in the matter with certain things. And we didn't argue as much; we really just did as we were told. I was the child and she was the parent.
